“Hey, hey! Give it back!”

“Catch me if you can!”

“This isn’t funny!”

A girl with snowy white, waist-length hair sighed as she watched Aya chase Kibou around and around the field. Thick locks of her hair had been tied into two long ponytails at the upper crown of her head, though they came down to her hips all the same. Her long bangs were parted widely down the middle. Her skin was very pale, almost vampiric or albino in nature (but neither was true). Amethyst violet eyes gazed at the scene before her in with slightly condescending glare.

“Imbeciles,” she muttered before glancing back down the book she was reading. But she found herself unable to concentrate for long; the yells of her friends grew far too loud. Letting out another long sigh, she slammed her book shut. Standing from the bench she was on, she straightened her strong cyan vest and the white pristine blouse underneath it. She dusted her way down, to her teal green skirt, her white leggings, and her lavender casual sneakers.

“Ji-Min!”

“Hm?” The white-haired girl looked up to find three more friends coming towards her. Another girl and two boys.

The girl—who had called out Ji-Min’s name—had iron gray hair, cut into layers, the bristled edges sticking out from next to her eyes to just below her chin to a little past her shoulders. Her nut brown eyes glittered as she waved at Ji-Min. Around her throat was a small necklace, beaded with wood and bone china. Beneath that, she wore a small light-colored leather jacket over a moderate amaranth short-sleeved shirt. Below that were short jeans, torn at the edges. Further down were a pair of beige combat boots.

“Oh.” Ji-Min smiled. “Hello, Eun-Ha.”

She turned to the boys and nodded to the two boys. “Ronin, Hyun-Su, good to see you both.”

The first boy, Ronin, nodded at her while the second boy, Hyun-Su, smiled.

Ronin was a handsome pale-skinned boy with raven black hair of slightly greater volume than the average boy’s. Long bladed bangs covered his forehead. His face was emotionless, as usual, the only thing showing any sign of joy of seeing his friend his gleaming eyes. They were a bit of an oddity: dark amber eyes with a piercing gaze that could bore into the soul. For this, it was rumored among the neighborhood children that he was a werewolf, though the speculation was as inaccurate as that of Ji-Min.

He wore a yellow hoodie with a marsupial pouch, and long dark gray pants underneath. Upon closer look, one would see his sable brown sneakers.

Hyun-Su looked very different from Ronin. He had somewhat messy hair, bangs scattered over his face with a single cowlick sticking out from the top of his head. Sorrel brown hair lightly covered cloud gray eyes. The boy wore a long-sleeved white shirt with a grayish brown sleeveless cotton vest. He wore light tan loose pants with light gray sneakers below that.

His charm was different from Ronin’s; rather than looking handsome or cool, he was one who looked gentle. While he wasn’t timid in nature, he was a bit of a sensitive guy.

Eun-Ha hopped down onto the bench. “So, what’s up?”

Before anyone could start a conversation, loud hollering cut in: “OH MY GOD, SOMEONE HELP! SHE’S TRYING TO KILL ME!”

The four that had gathered sighed. “They at it again?” Ronin asked.

“They’re always at it,” Ji-Min grumbled.

They all turned to find Kibou running towards them, Aya hot on his heels.

Kibou was a boy with flaxen blond hair, smoothly flowing over his forehead and eyebrows. Sapphire blue eyes (now wide with panic) sparkled, hinting at the vitality forever coursing through his veins. His strong amaranth shirt with his brilliant rose elbow-sleeved jacket added to his energetic appearance, complete with a pair of long jeans and a pair of red sneakers.

Aya was a girl with flaming red hair, a couple of thick locks tied into ponytails, just like Ji-Min. But her hair was much shorter, both her loose and tied ends only reaching to her shoulders. Her hair ties happened to be showy, too; unlike Ji-Min (who used white elastic hair ties that blended with her hair), Aya wore long yellow ribbons at the back of her crown, dangling down past her ears. Below it were a long-sleeved yellow turtleneck shirt, a brown bodice-less overalls skirt, and black velvet shorts. It was this unrestricted attire and her small pointy leather boots that allowed her to run fast enough to catch up to the boy who had stolen her backpack.

Usually, Aya was a very sweet girl, but she was also hyper and a bit short-tempered. And her leaf green eyes were glinting enough to give away one clear fact: She. Was. Pissed.

“GIVE IT BACK!” Aya yelled after Kibou as he jumped up on the bench, right behind Ji-Min. “YOU SON-OF-A—”

“Quiet.”

Ji-Min’s voice cut through the shenanigans like a knife through butter. Aya fell silent.

“Kibou,” Ji-Min ordered with an authoritative tone, “give her back her backpack.”

The boy in question did not hesitate. After the bag was returned to its rightful owner, the six children glanced at each other, an awkward silence threatening to drown them.

“Er. . . so,” Eun-Ha finally chimed, breaking the spell, “how’s it feel?”

Ji-Min raised an eyebrow. “You’ll have to be more specific than that.”

“Don’t pretend like you don’t know,” the gray-haired girl laughed, standing up and shoving Ji-Min playfully. “Two more days and school’s out, you know? Ain’t ya excited?”

The corners of Ji-Min’s lips curled up into a smile. “I see,” she said. “I’m expecting much as well.”

“I think it’ll be fun,” Hyun-Su chimed in. “Maybe we don’t have any solid plans just yet, but I think we’ll have fun.”

“Of course,” Ji-Min laughed. “With friends, vacation is always enjoyable.”

“Thank god we don’t live in Korea or Japan anymore,” Ronin huffed as he sat on the bench that Eun-Ha had stood up from seconds ago. “Seriously, their vacation lasts only about two months or less. I’m glad we moved.”

Contrary to their looks, all six of the kids were Asians. (But upon closer inspection, it would be easy to tell—their small noses and the fact that their eyes weren’t deep-set were dead giveaways.) Kibou, Aya, and Ronin were Japanese; Eun-Ha, Hyun-Su, and Ji-Min were Korean.

“Wasn’t it funny?” Eun-Ha snickered. “Our families met each other at Lotte World an year after you Japanese dudes moved into our country—”

“—and we kept whining to our parents that we all wanted to move somewhere where we can all live really close by?” Hyun-Su cut in, smiling fondly at the memory. “I think they just did it because we were so little back then.”

“Well, yeah,” Eun-Ha snorted. “Third grade. Four years ago.”

“A time when puppy dog eyes worked.”

“I can’t believe that was enough to move all of us here, though!” Aya giggled. “I mean, we don’t live that close by, but ten-minute walks to get around and see each other?”

“Ain’t it great?” Kibou joined in, the previous chase forgotten. “Top that, all our parents will be gone for, what, two months?”

“Ah, two months,” Hyun-Su sighed, calm but euphoric. “I can’t believe they even decided to take a chance like that. . . they’re totally trusting us to take care of ourselves! And we get to have fun!”

“I know, right?” Eun-Ha clapped her hands, excited. “We all get two whole months to ourselves. We can do whatever we want!”

“Just so as long as we don’t create a huge mess,” Ronin muttered.

“C’mon,” Aya laughed. “Don’t be such a killjoy. We’re careful enough.”

“Besides,” Ji-Min smoothly cut in, “considering our case, I would say we are quite adept at cleaning up after ourselves.”

It took only one second for the whole gang to understand. Soon, everyone was clutching their sides, roaring in raucous laughter.

It was a private joke. Only a few other than they themselves knew of the meaning behind it. . . and the kids intended to keep it that way.

“Alright, alright,” Hyun-Su gasped, being the first to return to his senses. “But seriously, what can we do?”

“Don’t ask,” Ronin huffed. “We haven’t planned anything.”

“Dude, that’s just it!” Kibou hollered. “We don’t need a plan.”

“Agreed!” Eun-Ha chuckled. “We freestylin’ all we want!”

“Just think about it,” Hyun-Su sighed. “We can play video games, watch movies, camp out, and do all sorts of crazy stuff. Whad’ya say?”

“Hey,” Aya chirped, “maybe we can marathon through all the ‘Law of Talos’ comics again! Or ‘Endzone’!”

At the suggestion, the entire group went, “Ohhhhhhhhh!” If there was one thing they could agree on, it was being creative or surfing the web for others’ creativity. “Law of Talos” had caught their attention as soon as they learned what DeviantArt was, and many other “Original Character Tournaments” would follow. To them, they were just divine. A mishmash of characters that perhaps not everyone would see or take an interest in, but pinning them all to fights with each other, teaching them a lesson or two, all as a story about an abandoned city unfolded? To them, the idea in itself was golden.

“Aye, that does sound like a nice way to pass our time,” Ji-Min chuckled. “Meanwhile, we can set schedules.”

“Heck yeah!” Aya cried, fist-pumping. “Only three more days of school, then we can party!”

More laughter escaped the throats of the six children. Yes, they would party. Only a few more days, and they would have their entire houses to themselves. They would be free. They would do whatever they want in their beloved suburb. Nothing would stop them. Anything that stopped them would pay for it.

There would be excitement. Lots of excitement.

If only they knew how much.

So, yay, first chapter! It focuses entirely on my OCs. Don't worry, we'll get to the people that everyone wants to see a chapter or two later.

My OCs:
Kibou Takahashi
Aya Sato
Ronin Yamamoto
Eun-Ha Park
Hyun-Su Choi
Ji-Min Yoon

If you guys don't know what Lotte World is, it's an amusement park in South Korea. Compared to Everland (another South Korean amusement park--probably the best), it's not that great, but it's one of the two well-known places where kids like to go out to have fun. Unfortunately, due to a recent construction project hosted by the same company that owns the place, it's regarded as unsafe to many. (This is why companies that live off building stuff need larger brains. . .)

If you guys don't know what "Law of Talos" is. . . well. Why are you reading this. . . GO REMEDY THAT NOW.

FUN FACT: The main cast that you have been introduced to had been inspired by a Korean movie called "Sunny", which had come out in 2011. I suggest that you search for a version with English subtitles then watch it--then every time you see the flashbacks, you'll understand what type of kids these kids are. (I know some of you are just dying to know what was so private about their joke, after all.)
