Literature Text

You don't quite remember how you woke up just one day and started living. If anything, you know you're a titan. . . that's basically it.

And you've put up with it, and lived with it. You're bigger than any creature you've come across so far (including the occasional human; unfortunately, you see them eaten up by others while they're kicking and screaming when you do see them). Don't pick a fight with the other titans, they won't bother you. You need sunlight to walk around.

Being a titan means having a high survival rate. Which is good, since you've got various ways to entertain yourself as each day passes.

You stretch and stand up to make your way to the nearby spring. As you walk as softly as you can, you pass a bunch of other titans. You really disapprove of them; honestly, the ones that you pass by are always a crowd of idiots.

Finally, you reach the spring. It's a peaceful place; a small pool surrounded by cliffs on one side, a thin waterfall providing the water, and grass and flowers on the other side, soft as you feel them under your feet.

You sit down in front of the spring to check your looks. You peer in and take in the image of yourself presented before you. Your black, long hair, gliding down the back of your neck just barely passing your shoulders. Your somewhat gray-tinged skin, with your neck, forearms, and shins covered in pinkish crystal. Your pointy nails, white as ivory, curved like claws at the edge of your limbs. Your red eyes, making you look intimidating. Which sometimes helps; more than once, you've had to scare off animals gnawing at your skin out of boredom. It's not like it hurts, but it seriously annoys you when that happens. Good thing you were born with your neck protected, at least no one's gonna chew there.

You close your eyes and think to yourself, You're a beautiful titan, a smart titan, a strong titan. Nothing's going to stand in your way, and today will be like any other day.

That's when you hear screaming.

You cringe. Those humans have to stop coming out to the forest.

You're kind of bored, though, and while you'll be grossed out by the inevitable bloodbath, at least you can keep your mind preoccupied.

You slip into the shadows of the gigantic trees. You stop just before you reach the end of the forest. You peer out, keeping yourself well hidden.

It seems like you've missed the violent bits, though. There are carts of bodies being pulled by horses, and even more alive humans mounted on other horses. Thankfully, there aren't too many dead bodies wrapped up this time. You sigh in relief. . . and nearly gag when you realize why they were screaming.

A small horde of 5-meter titans are chasing after them. There's about three or four of those fools; you might be able to take on them all, considering you're 15 meters tall. But you don't want to get involved in this in any way. So you just watch. It seems like the humans are going to make it back home, after all, but then a fast one suddenly leaps out of nowhere and reaches for one human at the edge of the group. His horse, startled, turns instinctively away from it and runs immediately in your direction, despite its rider's protests.

Then, something odd happens; the rest of the titans, including the one that had originally pursued its prey, turns from the group and chases after that particular human. You're really confused, and you nearly begin to wonder why they aren't drawn to the larger group of humans, when the scent of their blood alerts you. Abnormals. Not the abnormals that know where they can do more damage, but the ones that prefer to chase after littler groups.

Wait, if you can smell their blood from here, then--

They're close.

Without a second thought, you jump and cling to a higher point of the tree, just as the human and his horse enters the forest, with the other titans hot on the trail. As they pass below you, you feel relieved that you're a nimble and quick titan, not to mention stealthy. But you frown soon after. With those many fast titans chasing after that guy, he will definitely not last.

You jump down from the tree and jog in the direction they went. You soon see them, some of them running on just their legs, some of them scurrying on all fours. You lean forward and drag out a titan from the group, and impale it through the back of the throat on a nearby branch, and you continue chasing.

You reach the group again. You grimace as you wonder how you might be able to get rid of them without getting yourself seen by the human. Quickly, you kick a thin tree, and it crashes down on two of the titans, crushing them completely. Three down, one more to go.

You pick up your pace a bit. Which ends up being a mistake; as you end up turning the corner, you crash headfirst into a rocky cliff. You rub your head as you wait for the top of your skull to heal. Your vision clears. . . in time for you to see a boulder fall on the remaining titan. After a few seconds, steam rises up in large fumes around the lump of rock. Well, at least those surrounding pests were out of the way.

You turn your head a bit. . . and freeze. You can see the horse's legs sticking out under the boulder, but that's not important. That human's backed himself up completely against the cliff, and he's staring right at you, in fear.

You two stare at each other, and stay completely still. . . before you notice the human opening his mouth and inhaling. In a flash, you realize what he'll do.

He'll yell.

You lunge at him, just before he can start screaming. You grab him, four of your fingers pinning the human's arms to his side, your thumb clamped over his mouth. You scowl; you can't take the chance of letting your presence be known.

You lift him up, closer to your face, so you can take a good look at him. You lower your thumb, afraid you might be choking him. He's got a mop of blond hair with bright blue eyes. He looks up at you, petrified, tears now streaming down his face. He tries to squirm free, but in vain. All the while, his frightened icy eyes stare up at your blood red ones. He finally gives up trying to break away from your grip, but his body's still stiff.

An awkward silence follows, before he opens his mouth, and shakily says, "Please don't kill me."
Hm, tough call. Kill Armin? Or spare him?
